Best of Toronto's Chocolatiers
When you want a piece of chocolate, where do you go? Do you reach for a candy bar you can pick up at a grocery store? Or do you go the extra mile for that extra special, handmade chocolate truffle? Here are some places you should consider the next time you have a sweet tooth.
Stubbe Chocolates has been around for years, but in Toronto, Stubbe has been in it’s Annex location for five years. Personally, this is my favourite secret place to go to for a decadent piece of heaven. Though, not a secret for much longer. The smell of chocolate is in the air the minute you open the door. The options are endless. They have truffles in dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate. Truffles made with a variety of liquors. Chocolate bark, chocolate covered strawberries, milk chocolate almond clusters, chocolate cakes, chocolate cookies - everything is focussed on chocolate. During their high season, they offer about 30 different kinds of truffles, and a variety of 25 bars. When you take a bite of a rich Stubbe chocolate, it’s an experience that will satisfy all your senses. More
Known for their highly popular Champagne Truffle, Teuscher Chocolates of Switzerland offers a variety of these little chocolate bites. They’re great for wedding favours, to either give your guests as they walk in or to simply leave on each of their plates. These truffle fantasy boxes are all handmade, and come in a number of different themes - Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Christmas, Easter, and more. Flavours of truffles include: wine, orange, almond, cocoa and espresso chocolate. They also offer candied oranges dipped in chocolate, fruit creams, and marzipan, the latter of the three not my favourite, but that’s just my opinion. It’s a little tricky to find this location since they’re inside William Ashley at Manulife Centre, but it’s worth the trip once you get there and taste their champagne truffles. Yum. More
Owners Jennifer Rashleigh and Jeff Brown's organic chocolate shop is home to some of the finest hand-crafted truffles in Toronto. What’s amazing is that it’s all made using fair trade products and ingredients. They’ve got your basics covered with milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate. Then there’s the unique flavours like lemon vanilla, orange espresso, mojito,smoked sea-salt-caramel and my least fave - Quebec blue cheese. Their ice cream is possibly the richest ice cream in the city, their chocolate being absolutely delicious. All of their chocolate and ice cream is made with no preservatives, no chemicals and no stabilizers. There’s also a vegan sorbet and vegan truffles. To drink, they offer alternative grounds coffee and organic tea, and a flavourful European-style hot chocolate made with real chocolate. This location is a bit small, so you can’t sit and enjoy your treats, but you can indulge in your hot drink and truffle walking the trendy Queen West neighbourhood. More
